New Third-Gen Kindle Fire Details Leaked

The next Kindle Fire HD models will offer high-end tablet specs, including a high-end Snapdragon 800 processor, according to a recent report. But, until now, we didn’t know what to expect from Amazon’s entry-level Kindle Fire tablet.

According to a new report published Friday, the next Kindle Fire will reportedly feature the same chipset that powers the current Kindle Fire HD lineup, a 1.5GHz dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP4 4470 processor with PowerVR SGX544 graphics. It will also feature a higher resolution screen, matching the current Fire HD at 1280 x 800, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.2.2 are also going to launch on the device, though Android will be coated with Amazon’s custom Kindle Fire interface – which itself may see some changes.

Pricing is said to be staying the same for the 8GB model, which will again be offered at $159 (about £102, AU$173), though there may also be 16GB and 32GB models at unknown price points.

The electronics giant is getting ready for massive production of sapphire displays.  Speculation has been running rampant about Apple's plans for mobile devices with a sapphire screen and it is finally appear to be firming up on Thursday. Apple uses sapphire for the ID fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5S The iPhone maker recently placed a large order with GT Advanced Technologies for furnaces and chambers used in making sapphire displays. According to 9to5Mac, GT Advanced has already received 518 furnace and chamber systems, which would let it build 103 million to 116 million 5-inch displays per year. (Another 420 machines are still on order, which would nearly double that production output.) Moreover, GT Advanced also has ordered Intego Sirius Sapphire Display Inspection Tool components, which would work to make sure that the displays meet high-quality standards. Rather than having to get the provider's Wi-Fi access code, a visitor to a coffee shop or a hotel, for example, could connect to the Wi-Fi system simply by logging onto Facebook and "checking in" to the business' Facebook page.
