Yahoo’s Mail Service Is Closed In China
Yahoo’s Mail Service Is Closed In China |
The company had originally announced its intentions to move its Yahoo Mail users over to Alibaba, of which it owns a 20-percent stake. Alibaba’s email service is called Aliyun, with the added advantage of email forwarding from your old account until December 31 this year. Alternatively, people could switch over (minus that useful forwarding feature) to more popular email services such as Tencent’s QQ Mail or Netease’s 163 Mail, both of which have the advantage of being supported by the email app in Apple’s iOS..
It appears that all other Yahoo services will continue to operate in China as usual, including Yahoo search, which suggests that the company isn’t ready to entirely leave the country. The search giant has struggled against Google around the globe, though seems to have made a nice comeback under the leadership of Marissa Mayer, who has been CEO of Yahoo for about a year now.
