Ascend P6 - World's Slimmest Smartphone Launched By Huawei

Underlining its ambitions to compete with Apple and Samsung in the top tier of mobile technology,China's Huawei unveiled its flagship smartphone, the Ascend P6, at its first standalone launch event on Tuesday.Huawei Ascend P6 is touted to be the World’s Slimmest Smartphone. The company was the fourth-largest maker of smartphones in the first quarter of 2013, trailing LG Electronics and the two dominant brands Apple and Samsung, according to analyst firm Gartner. The top two sold more than 100 million units between them, while LG sold 10 million and Huawei 9 million, most of which were in its native China.

Huawei Ascend P6 comes with impressive specifications. The USP of the phone is definitely its slimness factor. Huawei Ascend P6 comes in a signature design as claimed by the maker. Huawei’s Ascend P6, which couples ‘Elegance with Edge’ is just 6.18 mm thick. The phone comes with a metallic outer body which is sharply curved at the edges (hello, HTC One)Huawei even launched the phone on 18th June (6/18) to coincide with the thinness factor! The phone is also light in weight at 120 grams as most smartphones fall around the 135 grams mark.

The phone runs on the latest Android version, Jelly Bean 4.2. The phone has skipped the 5-inch phablet mark and instead comes with a 4.7-inch capacitive touch-screen. The screen resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels. Huawei has also decided to launch their in-house UI termed Emotion UI 1.6 with the Huawei Ascend P6.

Under the hood runs a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor with a Huawei K3V2 chipset. There are no multiple internal memory variants, which is a little disappointing as what is offered with the Huawei Ascend P6 is just 8 GB. Expandable memory is also just 32 GB, below expectations as most of the P6 competitors offer up to 64 GB expandable memory. The RAM is 2 GB, so nothing to complain about there!

Camera is one of the most interesting features of Huawei Ascend P6. The rear end-camera is the standard 8 MP with LED flash and supports most features and modes like geo-tagging, HDR, face and smile detection. However, the rear-end camera is not what has kicked up the excitement by a notch. It’s the front end
camera.

A phone-maker has finally decided to go beyond the basic VGA, 1 MP and 2 MP front cams and progressed to the 5 MP mark. Yes, that’s right. Huawei Ascend P6 comes with a 5 MP video calling camera. With the increasing number of Instagram users and self-pictures clickers, it was high time a company moved beyond the conventional front-cams and brought some variety to the table.

The phone comes with most connectivity options but is not LTE compatible yet. Huawei Ascend P6 comes in three colours: Black, White and Pink and comes with a Li-po 2000 mAh battery.

With its sleek look and “elegant” design, we wonder if Huawei has limited the audience for the phone. Afterall, “elegance” is not on top of the list for phone buyers.
